How To Create Pick up Items With HUD Notification Unreal Engine 4. Here you will learn how to create and script a Pick up Item with HUD Notification in Unreal Engine 4. We will work with three Blueprints: Character Blueprint, Character HUD and the Pick up Item Blueprint. First step, open the character Blueprint and create a new Integer variable with a Default value of 0, call it Totalitems, then add a new Function, call it Additems, in the Editor, drag a Set Totalitems node and connect it with the Additems Function node, then, add a Get Totalitems node, drag of it and add a Integer + Integer node, set the B Integer pin to 1, connect the string with the Set Totalitems node, Compile and Save, then close the Blueprint.

Now, open the Character HUD, drag from Palette a Text, go to the Details panel into the Content section next to Text, erase Text Block and write 100, next to Position X type 200 - next to Position Y type 100 - next to Size X 100 - next to Size Y 50 - next to ZOrder 1, under Appearance > Justification > select Align Text Center. Next, go to Content > Text > Bind > select Create Binding, add a Cast To node (set it to the Character Blueprint) connect the Object pin with a Get Owning Player Pawn node, drag of the Cast To As pin and add a Get Totalitems variable node and connect it to a ToText (integer) node, connect the Return Value of the ToText (integer) node with the Return Value of the Function Return Node, Compile and Save, then close the Blueprint.

Create a new Actor Blueprint, go to Content Browser > click RMB > select Blueprint Class > Actor Blueprint, for example purposes, let's call it PickupitemBp. Now, add a Sphere Collision with a Sphere Static Mesh inside it. With the Sphere Collision selected go in to Details panel > Events > select On Component Begin Overlap.

In the Editor Graph, drag of the On Component Begin Overlap, add a Cast To node (set it to the Character Blueprint) connect the Object pin with the Other Actor pin of the On Component Begin Overlap node. Next, drag of the Cast To As pin and add the Additems Function node, Compile and Save, then close the Blueprint.
