DaVinci Resolve Beginner's Guide

Here you will learn the basics and how to use DaVinci Resolve, how to edit a video file, how to add transitions, how to export your video file and more...

Let's start

When you first open DaVinci Resolve you will see a toolbar at the bottom of the software with 7 sections, first section is called Media, second Cut and the third Edit (the default editor), for starters we will talk about the Media and Edit. To start editing a video you need to go to the Media section (select it from the bottom toolbar), after you have selected the Media, on the upper left side you will see an area with folders, select the folder that contains your video files (the files that you want to edit), now, you will see that the files will appear next to it, drag and drop files in the media pool (the area that say's "No clips in media pool") - finally, now you have files to edit in the Edit section, here you can drag, edit and arrange files in the timeline.

Edit a video file

Drag photos and / or videos onto the timeline, arrange the photos and / or videos in whatever sequence you want them to appear in your final video, you can rearrange the clips as many times as needed by simply dragging and dropping them. To add audio, drag the audio file in the timeline, position the audio below the photos and / or videos tracks.

Add transitions

To add transitions, go to the Effects Library, select the type of transitions you want (Video or Audio), and drag it into the timeline between two images or videos.

Export your video

To export your video you have to select the Deliver section found in the toolbar at the bottom of the software > edit the render settings > press the button Add to Render Queue > press the button Start Render.
